Yalenka’s major fundraising events are bingos and a casino.  Gaming provides us with a large sum of money allowing us to keep our registration fees reasonable, while still being able to:

  • hire professional instructors and pay competitive wages
  • buy music for specific story lines and dances
  • rent studio space with ballet barres and sprung floors
  • order specialized costumes from Ukraine or hire professionals to sew regional costumes
  • help subsidize dancers for competitions, and
  • offer travel opportunities to the dancers.

As a result of gaming funds, our fees have not increased and we are able to offer affordable dancing to families.

Yalenka has been guaranteed a casino for this year!

Please note that this fundraising opportunity enables Yalenka to raise a great deal of funds in a SHORT period of time (2 days of work instead of selling around 50,000+ raffle tickets, or making and selling 20,000+ dozen perogies!).

This money keeps our fees competitive, while still providing professional instructors and rehearsal space, amazing costuming, and travel opportunities for dancers, among other things.

So…. WE NEED ALL YALENKA FAMILIES TO HELP OUT!!!

The date of our casino is

APRIL 8TH & 9TH, 2012

(yes, we understand it is Easter Sunday & Monday…  this was our only option this year)

Some of the positions & shifts we need filled for each day include:

(note: all volunteers must be 18 years of age or older)

11 a.m. – 7 p.m shift, and

6:30 p.m. – close (approx 2 a.m.) shift:

                  General Manager

                  Alternate GM

                  Cashier (2 spots)

                  Chip Runner (2 spots)

10 p.m. – close

                  Count Room Supervisor

                  Count Room Workers (6 spots)

If each family fills ONE shift, we will have no problem staffing this casino.  If you cannot personally work this casino, we take friends & extended family for volunteers as well!!!

Please email jskropp@shaw.ca as soon as possible to let her know which shift you can work.

Every two years Yalenka tries to do some major trip to keep the dancers keen and give them the opportunity to travel and dance. Two years ago, we went to Disney World and danced at the Magic Kingdom, as well as Universal in Florida.

In 2008, we went to Ukraine to dance as well as take clinics and visit the different regions of dance. What a wonderful chance to meet the people of Ukraine. The memories of the culture, food, amazing history, architecture, regions, and dance will stay with all of us forever.

2011 brought a group of Yalenka dancers to New York for workshops and a chance to experience this vibrant city.

Plans are now underway for a potential group trip within Alberta for 2012

Yalenka will also be inquiring about dancer interest in a trip to Turkey in 2013 later this year.  Stay tuned to the newsletter and whiteboard for further information!
