Fundraising Activities

Yalenka’s one major fundraising event is a casino. Casinos provide us with a large sum of money, allowing us to:

1) hire professional instructors and pay competitive wages
2) rent studio space with ballet bares and sprung floors
3) order specialized costumes from Ukraine or hire professionals to sew regional costumes
4) subsidize dancers for competitions
5) offer travel opportunities to the dancers

As a result of casino dollars, our fees have not increased and we are able to offer affordable dancing to families.

Bingos are the other major fund-raising endeavor.  As you know, it is a requirement that
each family work at least one bingo.  This is a NON-SMOKING facility

EVENINGS:  Volunteers start at 5:00 PM  Bingo starts at 6:25 PM – 9:30 PM
This is the number of volunteers required for an evening bingo and the absolute latest volunteer times.

Remember: penalty is a $100.00 fine per person for Yalenka if you do not show up for your scheduled bingo, so if you sign up, show up! (if over 14 volunteers, this penalty fee will not pertain)

Every two years Yalenka tries to do some major trip to keep the dancers keen and give them the opportunity to travel and dance. Two years ago, we went to Disney World and danced at the Magic Kingdom, as well as Universal in Florida.

In 2008, we went to Ukraine to dance as well as take clinics and visit the different regions of dance.What a wonderful chance to meet the people of Ukraine. The memories of the culture, food, amazing history, architecture, regions, and dance will stay with all of us forever.

This year 2009-2010, we are planning on a local trip somewhere in Alberta. We will also be celebrating our 35th Anniversary, so watch for more details on this big event!

Our next trip out of Canada will be in 2011 and will be announced very soon. Any individuals that dance in the older groups start preparing. Our next trip will come quickly!
